Who are we ?

We are The Bug Trotters, two Food Engineers and Edible Insects Experts ! We are traveling the world to find new Edible Insects! Through our blog, you’ll discover the delicious insects that people eat around the world, learn how to cook, harvest and breed them !   Moreover, you will find our articles which count our entomphagical aventures (fact of eating Insects)  during our trip !

A brief introduction about ourselves

Hey there! I’m Antoine Guermonprez!

I’m a young agronomist specialized in the food industry, having graduated with an engineering degree from Agrocampus-Ouest in Rennes and Montpellier Supagro. After having spent some time raising and cultivating crickets in Vietnam, analyzing the nutritional content of termites in South Africa and having created cookies with caterpillars as a main ingredient in Burkina Faso, I keep pushing to promote the consumption of insects in our society!

Hi, I’m Marie Colombier!

Where does the idea of eating insects come from?

Antoine: from a recipe ...

In 2015, while I was searching the internet for new recipes to try, I landed on a recipe for cookies made with mealworms. I first found the idea surprising, new and then… after having researched all the benefits of edible insects, groundbreaking! After having tested a few recipes and convincing my friends and family that they would, in fact, not be poisoned by my food, I decided to complete an internship in Germany, in a startup called Bug Foundation, which produces burgers with insects as the primary ingredient. My passion for entomophagy has since only grown stronger and made me traveled around the world to become an Edible Insects expert!

Marie: from a trip to Asia...

In 2014, I spent 6 months on Borneo as an exchange student. My friends came from remote villages, and when I visited them and their families, guess what I ate? Insects… and for them it was completely normal! After having “devoured” the information available on the internet concerning edible insects, I understood their potential as human and animal foods, and since then, I’ve travelled the world searching for and discovering entomophagous cultures (meaning those that eat insects).

Our main goal?

One big question concerns us today...

How are we going to feed all habitants of our planet in a healthy and sustainable manner, and without negative impact to the environment?

And, well, we are convinced that raising, cultivating and eating insects is a surprising and genius way for us all to answer this question.

And today ?

Today, we have learnt a lot through our global travels discovering entomophagous cultures, and we wish to share our learnings with you! Enjoy the read, and if you want any additional details on a particular subject, don’t hesitate to reach out to us !
